Jobs and Professions – شغل

In Arabic, the word for work is شغل. When you want to use it as a verb, such as to say “I work” or “where do you work?” the root is in form VIII – اشتغل

*(don’t forget to add “b’s” when you say the verb)

I work in a storeاشتغل في دكان

I work as an engineerانا اشتغل مهندس

What is your job?شو تشتغل انت؟

The word for profession/occupation is مهنة – مهن

 

There are several forms for making the words for professions which I will categorize into:

فعّال – usually jobs from medieval era
اسم الفاعل
Turkish suffix -ji
without a system
